Database billing
Each database is free within its CPU, memory, and storage ceiling. Only usage above a ceiling is billed; there is no base charge.
Free ceiling
Every database is free at or below all three of these:

A database within every ceiling needs no payment method.
Metered rates above the ceiling
Scaling above a ceiling requires a card or positive credit balance in the current project. Scaling back down never does.

Compute is metered as resource-hours and reported hourly; the CPU and memory ceilings are allowances per metered hour, so your free allowance for a cycle is the ceiling multiplied by the hours actually collected. Storage is metered as GB-days and reported daily.
Above-ceiling compute quantities round up to a whole vCPU-hour or GB-hour, and storage rounds up to a whole GB-day. Each line is rounded to cents once, and any positive overage bills at least one cent. Usage within the ceiling remains free.
A cycle is priced at the rates in force when it started, so a rate change applies from your next cycle unless it was scheduled for a date inside the current one.
Example
A database at 4 GB memory and 6 GB storage for every hour of a 30-day cycle (720 metered hours).

CPU stays at or below 1 vCPU here, so it costs nothing. If you resize storage mid-cycle, each storage size appears as its own line with the number of days it was held.
Viewing database costs
To view your database costs:
- Navigate to Billing → Cost Breakdown
- Select the Databases view
- Choose a billing cycle date range
- View the cost breakdown by database
The breakdown shows usage, usage above the ceiling, unit price, and total cost. Set a billing-cycle spending limit to block new above-ceiling actions at the limit while keeping running databases online.
